Eulexin belongs to a class of drugs known as anti-androgens (anti-testosterone). It works by blocking the effects of testosterone, thereby slowing the growth and spread of prostate cancer. This medication is used to treat men with prostate cancer, and is used with other medications and sometimes with radiation treatments.
Take Eulexin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual recommended dose for prostate cancer is 250 mg three times a day, about eight hours apart. Take your doses at about the same times each day to keep an even level of the drug in your bloodstream. It can be taken with or without food. Do not stop taking this medication without first talking to your doctor. Stopping your medications could allow the cancer to spread more rapidly.
Before taking Eulexin you should talk with your doctor if you have liver disease, hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver failure, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, allergic reaction to fava beans, blood disorder (methemoglobinemia or hemoglobin M disease), any allergies. This drug may rarely make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or perform tasks that require alertness. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug.
You should not take Eulexin if you are allergic to it, flutamide, or any of the inactive components of this medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have severe liver disease.
